Materials

Materials we work with.

We bring samples to the design visit so you can see them in your own light.

  • Concrete pavers. The most versatile option, with dozens of colors, shapes and patterns like herringbone, running bond and basketweave.
  • Travertine. Natural stone that stays comfortable under bare feet. A favorite for pool decks.
  • Stone-look and large-format pavers. Modern, clean lines with fewer joints.
  • Turf or gravel joints. A contemporary look with extra drainage.

How we build it

Why our hardscapes last.

Most paver problems start below the surface. This is the part of the job you never see, and the part we take the most care with.

01

Excavate and grade

We shape the ground so water runs away from the house and pool, not toward it.

02

Compacted base

Crushed aggregate goes down in layers, each one compacted with a plate compactor.

03

Bedding and screed

A flat, even setting bed so every paver sits level.

04

Lay, cut and border

Clean cuts, soldier or sailor borders, and edge restraint so the field can't creep.

05

Compact and joint

Pavers are compacted into the bed, then the joints are filled.

06

Walkthrough

Pavers vs. poured concrete

Why pavers instead of poured concrete?

  • Concrete cracks; pavers flex. Individual units move slightly with the ground instead of breaking.
  • Repairs are invisible. Lift the affected pavers, fix the base and relay the same ones. No ugly patch.
  • Better looking for longer. Color goes all the way through, and patterns and borders add curb appeal.
  • Drainage. Joints let water move instead of sheeting across a slab.

Existing pavers

Already have pavers that sank, shifted or faded?

Settled areas, broken pavers and washed-out joints can usually be fixed without starting over. Tell us what you're seeing in your estimate request, add a photo if you can, and we'll let you know how we can help.
